Age of Beauty
Hey Beauties! I’m especially excited to share today’s post with you because I am again, like so many times before, sharing my skincare secrets. Well if you’ve been following the blog, then you already know how much I stress the importance of a consistent skincare regimen.
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t really start paying attention to my skin until I turned 30! Looking back to my 20′s, I now realize how much I neglected my skin. I didn’t wear sunscreen consistently, I always went to bed with makeup on and my diet (because we all know that inner beauty determines outer beauty) consisted of a little bit of any and every thing!
Well, I’m well into my 30′s and I swear by a consistent skincare regimen. And I don’t believe in any short-cuts, quick tricks or gimmicks to achieving the desired result of healthy, beautiful skin – there aren’t any! The good news is that it’s never too late to adopt a skincare regimen.
Here are a few steps that I follow to not only keep my skin healthy, but also keep my skin looking 10 years younger! The easy steps are:
1. Cleanse your skin morning & night (never go to bed without removing makeup!).
2. Always use a toner after cleansing your skin. It not only returns the skin back to it’s normal pH, but it also helps with product penetration.
3. Use a moisturizer with a minimum of SPF 15 during the day! (90% of aging is caused by UV rays; UVB rays burn the skin and UVA rays age the skin!)
4. Use a moisturizer with antioxidants at night because your skin repairs itself most while you’re sleeping.
5. Use an eye cream both morning and night under your moisturizer. Signs of aging show first around the eyes, forehead, mouth, neck and hands.
6. Exfoliate twice a week. It will help with skin cell turnover (which keeps your skin looking fresh and young!) and with the penetration of product ingredients into the skin.
7. Use a mask twice a week. The benefits are countless!
8. Take a multi-vitamin daily and drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water daily.
9. Eat fresh green vegetables at least three times a week.
10. Make sure you’re getting adequate sleep! Your skin cells repair themselves most when your body is at rest, so you need your sleep.
The list above is a general guideline and will vary depending on skin type, age and other factors. The most important aspect of caring for your skin at home is first knowing your skin type and making sure you’re using products specific to your skin type.
This has been my regimen for my 30′s and because I’ve been following it consistently and love my results, I have no worries about the minor adjustments I may need to make in my 40′s!
